The University of Uyo in Nigeria today conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration to Alhaji(Dr) Muhammadu Indimi, OFR for his outstanding contribution to development of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, as well as sustainable community development initiatives.

Dr. Indimi was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree at the combined 22nd/23rd Convocation ceremony of the University of Uyo in the presence of the Governor of Borno State Alhaji Kashim Shettima, the Governor of Gombe Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, Emir of Kano, HRH Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, Shehu of Dikwa, HRH Alhaji Muhammed Ibn Mustafa II Al-Amin Elkanemi , the Deputy Governor of Kano, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, prominent traditional rulers as well as other notable dignitaries, University lecturers and students.

During the ceremony, the University highlighted Dr. Indimi’s philanthropic activities across education, health and social welfare, housing and critical aid provision. Since 2009 Dr. Indimi, through Oriental Energy Resources [Oriental] has awarded over 470 scholarships to recipients in Akwa Ibom State, created a sponsorship program for the University of Uyo’s Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering as well as trained and awarded start-up funds to over 270 youths from the State. In addition, Dr. Indimi has trained 500 women, 200 of whom were awarded seed funding to start new business.

The University honor comes at a time when Dr. Indimi is currently building a N700 million modern residential estate of 100 units in Enwang, headquarters of Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State aimed at providing housing for beneficiaries from the host communities. When completed, the village will have a solar-powered electrification system, a school, clinic, a shopping centre and other amenities.

In the citation for Dr Indimi, he was lauded for his exemplary leadership and philanthropy that have had an impact on Akwa Ibom state and Nigeria.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Indimi commented: ” This award gives me a fresh opportunity to continue my previous association and contributions to the growth and development of the University. In appreciation of this award, I am ready to cooperate with the University in furthering its development. I want to assure you that I will continue to work hard in making contributions which will have sustainable impact on the Nigerian economy and my community, including Akwa Ibom State.

Dr Indimi advised the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the University: “ Do not rest on your laurels. Strive for excellence. Do your best to contribute to your immediate community and beyond.

We will continue to seek out opportunities to add value to communities across Nigeria.
